At the end of 2014, Hewlett Packard announced it changed its global strategy, splitting the global entity in two distinct companies. This also had effects in Romania, where the business activities had to stabilize and expand, operate cost and capital structure improvements and focus on processes' efficiency. Currently HP delivers the largest SSC business in Romania with more than 3,000 professionals, with a pool of 3,500 reached in 2013. The Award was offered by Diana Voicu, State Secretary, Ministry of Justice, (former Secretary of State, Ministry for Information Society).
Nominees: BUSINESS INFORMATION SYSTEMS (BIS), UNIVERSITY ALEXANDRU IOAN CUZA, IASI, IT School - AEI TEAMNET GROUP, WIPRO TECHNOLOGIES
Established in 1997, Business Information Systems (BIS) is the newest specialization offered by the Faculty of Economics and Business Administration (FEAA) from Alexandru Ioan Cuza University of Iasi and although the programme has hit "adolescence", it has not reached the stage of denial and "arguments with parents" yet. BIS outlines a profile derived from the pattern of British and American Management/Business Information Systems. Although relatively difficult, BIS is a challenging specialization focusing not so much on theory, but mainly on a project's and application's development according to market needs. Therefore, many partner companies were invited in 2014 as guests at courses and taught students the latest trends in the market and companies' best practices. Some of their partners are: Centric, Endava, Mind Software, Xerox, Capgemini, Falcon Trading, Harte Hanks, and Amazon. Within the BIS specialization, there were created two clubs where specialized trainers are working with students: Capgemini perform SAP Business Application courses and Falcon Trading Iasi implement Microsoft Axapta programming courses. For the purpose of "strengthening" the links with the local IT outsourcing market, 35 internship contracts were signed with the IT companies. At a request from the IT outsourcing companies, 2014 established a new Master program in English, named Software, Development and Business Information Systems. Also, based on the market demands, it was increased with 50 per cent the number of students pursuing BIS specialization (reaching 150 students). In 2014, as in the previous years, more than 75 per cent of students were employed in the IT domain during their studies. As a consequence, the number of candidate students for BIS program is increasing from year to year. In 2014, the BIS program was the most required among the specializations from our Faculty, having 214 candidates.
